Lobos to vie in San Antonio tomorrow


At San Antonio tomorrow, the Uvalde Lobos will resume their District 28-5A basketball schedule as they face the district-leading Harlan Lady Hawks.

Varsity tip-off time is set for 1:30 p.m., while both sub-varsity games will start at noon.

Coach Terry Barton’s Lady Hawks, 4-0 in district play and 17-5 for the season overall, are one of the top girls’ basketball teams in San Antonio area this season.

Some of the top players for Harlan this season include post Jasmine Richardson, a 5-foot-10 junior, and guards Hannah Gallegos, a 5-foot-3 junior, Jaisa Morris, a 5-foot-4 senior, and forward Ariyel Gordon, a 5-foot-9 sophomore.

Guards Layla Conley, a 5-foot-8 freshman, and Kastyn Young, a 5-foot-10 freshman, are among the top newcomers in the district this year.

Harlan placed four players in double-figure scoring in their 72-51 rout over the Floresville Jaguars last Tuesday night.

Coach Fortino Patiño’s Lobos, 0-4 in district play and 5-13 for the season, lost a 50-41 decision against the Southwest Lady Dragons in their final game before the Christmas break.

The Lobos lost to the Southwest Legacy Lady Titans, 65-32, in a district road game on Dec. 17.

Following action against Harlan tomorrow, the Lobos will be back home on Friday when they host the Eagle Pass Winn Lady Mavericks in Harvey Kinchlow Gym.

The Uvalde-Winn varsity game will tip off at 6:30 p.m., while those two sub-varsity games will get underway at 5 p.m.

On Jan. 7, the Lobos will be on the road to take on the Somerset girls in district basketball action.
