Lobos total 40 team points in Area track-and-field meet

Thursday at Floresville, the Uvalde Lobos rolled up 40 team points in the District 29-5A/30-5A Area track-and-field meet and qualified several athletes for regional competition.

Their 40 points netted Coach Libby Guzman’s Lobos a ninth-place finish in the team standings.

Corpus Christi Carroll won the team title with 91.5 points, while Gregory-Portland took second place with 71 points.

Several UHS girls placed fourth or better in their events to qualify them for the regional track meet set for next Friday and Saturday at San Antonio.

Esmy Garcia took runner-up honors in the 400-meter dash with his time of 1:01.14.

Garcia finished second behind Brooke Barrington of Calallen. She had a winning time of 1:00.51.

Kayden Carrasco took third place in the 800-meter dash. She posted a time of 2:24.27.

Barrington won the 800 meters with her time of 2:18.31.

Zaneta Salazar wound up fourth in the 100-meter dash. She recorded a time of 12.75 seconds.

Flour Bluff’s Kayla Music won the 100 meters with a time of 12.35 seconds.

The Uvalde 4-by-400-meter relay team of Andrea Perez, Alisandra Rodriguez, Esmy Garcia and Kayden Carrasco took third place. They ran the race in a time of 4:04.81.

Carroll won the event with a time of 3:58.66.

UHS had athletes placed in several other events.

Brisa Rodriguez and Alexandria Nolasco placed fifth and sixth in the 3,200-meter run with times of 13:31.04 and 13:32.18.

Uvalde’s 4-by-200-meter relay team of Alisandra Rodriguez, Zaneta Salazar, Brianna Crow and Alexa Luna took fifth place with their time of 1:48.21.

Zaneta Salazar placed sixth and Andrea placed eighth in the long jump. Their jumps were 16 feet and 4.5 inches, and 15 feet and 9 inches. Salazar placed seventh in the triple jump with her jump of 35 feet and one-half inch.

Alexa Luna finished sixth in the 200-meter dash. Her time was 26.60 seconds.

Tabytha White placed sixth in the 800 meters with her time of 2:31.40.

Briana Crow took eighth place in the 100 meters in a time was 13.49 seconds.

With their 40 points, the Lobos were the second highest-finishing team among District 29-5A schools in the Area meet.

Floresville posted 46 team points.
