Man murdered in West Cargile Street home

Puente ‘was likely dead several hours’ before he was found

Francisco Javier Puente Jr., 35, was found dead in his apartment Monday afternoon. He had several stab wounds, according to Uvalde Police.

Uvalde Police were dispatched to 602 W. Cargile St., Apt. 2, after Puente’s girlfriend called 911.

“She hadn’t been able to get a hold of him so she went to his apartment. The door was unlocked and when she opened it she sees all this blood in the living room,” said Lt. Mariano Pargas. “She didn’t go inside. She called 911.”

Puente was pronounced dead at the scene, which was investigated by Uvalde Police, Texas Rangers and investigators with the 38th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

As of Wednesday morning, the police had several persons of interest but no suspects.

“We are treating this case as a homicide,” Pargas confirmed. “The victim had several stab wounds and was likely dead several hours before he was found.”

Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office is performing an autopsy.
