Mayor: Out of respect for families, as well as city code, abstain from firecrackers, fireworksFree Access

The city of Uvalde has a year-round ordinance against fireworks, and the Uvalde County Commissioners’ Court banned them in unincorporated areas for the July 4 holiday due to dry conditions.

With those often flouted codes in place, Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin Jr. is asking area residents to think about the children, teachers, and staff directly affected by the May 24, 2022, mass shooting at Robb Elementary School as a guiding reason to abstain from utilizing loud pyrotechnics this holiday weekend.

City code prohibits any person from selling or offering for sale fireworks within the city limits or within 5,000 feet of the city limits.

Anyone found in violation is subject to a fine of up to $500 for each offense.

McLaughlin said anyone ignoring the ordinance will have their fireworks/firecrackers confiscated.
