Melba R. Castillo 

Melba Reyes Castillo, 68, of Uvalde died on May 14, 2023, at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital in San Antonio.

Visitation began May 24 and will continue May 25 from noon to 9 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on May 26 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

She was born on Sept. 6, 1954, in San Diego, Texas, to Evangelina Cuellar and Jose G. Reyes.

She is survived by four sons, Jose Carlos Castillo and Jesus Castillo and wife, Rachel, all of Uvalde, Ricardo Castillo Jr. and wife, Zwanyka, of La Pryor, and Roberto Castillo and wife, Julie, of Friendswood; daughter, Sonia Ochoa of Uvalde; four brothers, Ruben Reyes and wife, Gloria, and Daniel Reyes of Uvalde, Domingo Reyes of Del Rio, and Raymond Reyes and wife, Rosa, of Del Rio; five sisters, Eloisa Rodriguez, Alma Reyes, Sylvia Ramirez and husband, Manuel, and Rebecca Flores and husband, Mario, all of Uvalde; and Antonia Pena and husband, Manuel, of Spofford; 21 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ricardo Castillo Sr.; son Robert C. Castillo; parents; and two brothers, Jose Reyes Jr. and Arturo Reyes

Pallbearers will be Luis Ochoa, Aciel Ochoa, Jesus Castillo Jr., Karloz Castillo, Kaleb Castillo, Daniel Ochoa, Ruben Sanchez, and Jose Sanchez.

Honorary pallbearers are Liam Ochoa, Jacobi Ochoa, Marcos Leos, Miguel Mariscal, Johnny Castillo, Jesus Castillo, Jaxon Gutierrez, and Raiden Ochoa.
