Raymond D. Gonzalez

Raymond David Gonzalez, 58, of Uvalde, died on July 23, 2022, at his residence. 

He was born on Sept. 29, 1963, in Uvalde to Andrea (Lopez) and Gumecindo Gonzalez.

He met Margarita Gomez in Colorado in 1984 and they married on June 1, 1985, in Del Rio.

Gonzalez was a proud Army veteran, having served his country for eight years. He attended basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, for 13 months, followed by 13 weeks at Advance Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. 

Gonzalez was stationed in Germany for three months. He transferred to Korea for 2nd Infantry Division for one year. 

He was also stationed in Alaska with the 2nd 34th Armored Infantry Division and finished in Fort Carson, Colorado. 

The family described him as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, who always thought of others before himself. He loved to fish and hunt with his children and friends and was known to drive a green 1995 Ford.

He is survived by his wife, of Uvalde; daughter, Cynthia M. Gonzalez of Lockhart; son, Danny Ray Gonzalez and wife, Cristal, of Uvalde; four grandchildren, Karla Marie Gonzalez, Calvin James Gonzalez, Isabelle Faith Gonzalez and David Carlos Gonzalez, all of Uvalde; mother, of Uvalde; five sisters, Linda Villanueva and Audrey Diaz, both of Uvalde, Rebecca Hernandez of Lockhart, Delia Lule of Avon Park, Florida, and Alicia Gonzalez of Allende, Coahuila, Mexico; four brothers, Larry Gonzalez of Uvalde, Gilbert Gonzalez of Defiance, Ohio, Erby Gonzalez of Lake Jackson, Florida, and Johnny Gonzalez of New Braunfels; and numerous nieces, nephew and cousins.

He was preceded by his father; sister, Belinda Gonzalez; and brother, Gumecindo Gonzalez Jr.

Visitation took place July 25 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and a prayer service was held from 5-7 p.m.

Cremation is under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.
