Romelia M. Rocha

Romelia Martinez Rocha, 87, of San Antonio, formerly of La Pryor, died on Aug. 18, 2019, in San Antonio.

She was born on Jan. 15, 1932, in Gonzales to Maria (Bustos) and Jose Martinez.

She was a Girl Scouts of the USA leader and a 4-H mother who taught her children qualities and life skills which they carried with them into adulthood. She was dedicated to God, her church ministry and a life of service.

The family says she was always ready to dance and enjoyed life, she traveled extensively and enjoyed stopping at casinos along the way. She lived for her family and no matter the distance, she made the trip to attend all significant milestones, including birthdays, baptisms and weddings.

She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Nieves Rocha of San Antonio; eight sons, Henry Lee Becerra and wife, Guadalupe, of San Antonio, Jesse Becerra and wife, Maria, of Eagle Pass, Carlos Becerra and wife, Olivia, Alvino Flores III and wife, Sylvia, and Luis Roberto Flores and wife, Belia, all of La Pryor, David Oscar Flores and wife, Thronda, of Scottsville, Michigan, Augustine Flores and wife, Consuelo, of Killeen, and Alejandro Serapio Flores and wife, Marcela, of Arriba, Colorado; two daughters, Maria Teresa Dube and husband, Darren, of La Pryor, and Fidelia Ballesteros and husband, Robert, of Knippa; 36 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren and one more on the way; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Johnny Becerra; sister, Nilda Rodriguez; and eight brothers, David Martinez, Fred Martinez, Basilio Martinez, Jesus Martinez, Emilio Martinez, Salvador Martinez, Santos Martinez  and Jose Martinez.

A visitation was held on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and a rosary was recited at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary

A mass of Christian burial was held yesterday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in La Pryor, followed by interment at La Pryor Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Maricela Villalobos, Roxann Gallegos, Augustine Flores Jr., Johnny Becerra Jr., Jesse Becerra Jr., Alvino Flores IV, Bobby Flores Jr. and Carmen Elizondo.

Honorary pallbearers were Alex Flores Jr., Lisa Hernandez, David Flores Jr.and Henry Lee Becerra.
