Ronald J. Shackleford

Ronald Joe (Ronnie) Shackleford, 73, of Mill Creek, Oklahoma, formerly of Uvalde, passed unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, in Mill Creek, Oklahoma.

Ronnie was born July 10, 1950, in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, to the late Thurman and Norma (Miller) Shackleford.

Ronnie married Renee (Bird) on March 27, 1970.

He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed the beauty of nature. Of all, his favorite line of work was always ranching, and after retiring from his air conditioning business, he was able to purchase his own ranch in Mill Creek Oklahoma, where he enjoyed raising his own sheep, cattle, and goats.

Outside of his own ranch and family, he loved spending time with his extended family at the Reagan Community Center, the Reagan Jubilee, and the area community singing events.

He especially enjoyed his time as a member of the “Guns of Sipokni” old west gun fight reenactments, and acting in short films at Sipokni West, in Reagan, Oklahoma.

Ronnie never met a stranger, was quite a character, and had lots of stories to tell. He truly cared about each and every person he came into contact with, from elementary school to people he just met.

He also loved to tease and aggravate his friends and loved ones (whether they liked it or not). He was a magnet to children, and they knew he loved them all. He loved all of his nieces and nephews as if they were his own.

He also loved to write poems about life as a cowboy, loving nature, and about the people he knew and loved. He was knowledgeable in a variety of different areas and, as he would say, he was an expert!

Friends and family regularly contacted him for information, and he always knew the right answers.

Ronnie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Renee, of Mill Creek Oklahoma, his sons Brad Shackleford of Houston, Texas, and Bryan Shackleford of Dallas, Texas, his brother Bobby Shackleford, and wife Anne of Uvalde, Texas, his sister Elizabeth (Shackleford) Barton, and husband Derk of Uvalde, Texas, his mother-in-law Willie Bird of Uvalde, Texas, his brothers-in-law Ronny Bird of Boerne, Texas, and Ricky Bird and wife Debra also of Boerne, Texas, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends which he loved dearly.

Funeral services to honor and celebrate the life of Ronald Shackleford were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at DeArman-Clark Funeral Home in Tishomingo with Keith Shackleford officiating.
