Sabinal brothers Brayson and Rankin McMillian, sons of Stacey and Mark McMillian, have qualified to compete in the Texas Junior High Rodeo State finals in Gonzales.
The brothers compete in Region 8 rodeo competition held at the Uvalde County Arena at the Fairplex.
Brayson, an eighth-grade student at Sabinal Junior High School, qualified in breakaway roping, ribbon roping, and goat tying. This will be Brayson’s second year to compete at the state level.
Rankin, a sixth-grade student at Sabinal Elementary School, qualified in breakaway roping, chute dogging, and goat tying. Rankin also won the 2024 Rookie Cowboy title
The state finals are scheduled for May 26 through June 1. The brothers practice year-round and say they are excited to compete. Competitors are expected from across the country to be in attendance.
rummage sale
The ladies’ group at the Sabinal Methodist Church, 200 Fisher Ave., will host a rummage sale on Friday, May 3, from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Saturday, May 4, from 8 a.m. until noon. Funds benefit several ministries. For more information, call the church office at 830-988-2535.
Catholic Church
The St. Patrick Catholic Church, 501 N. Orange St. in Sabinal, will celebrate a special mass for graduating high school seniors. Senior mass is Saturday, May 4, at 7 p.m. Seniors are welcome to wear their cap and gown.
Athletics Booster
The Sabinal Athletics Booster Club is set to host the Sabinal sports banquet on Wednesday, May 1. The banquet recognizes Sabinal High School athletes with end-of-the-year awards.
