Sabinal graduation set tomorrow

Graduation for Sabinal High School’s class of 2023 is set for tomorrow night at 8 p.m. in Yellowjacket Stadium. 

There are two aldermen spots open on the Sabinal City Council. In Ward I is the seat Ricky Rodriguez held before his death on Feb. 27, and in Ward II is the seat Shelly Boyd held until her resignation effective May 9. 

On June 12, when council meets again, Mayor Charles D. Story may recommend persons to temporarily fill the spots until a special election set in November. 

Sabinal City Hall, Sabinal Public Library, and the Sabinal Post Office will be closed May 29 for Memorial Day. Postmaster Richard Olvedo said the post office will be open the following day from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closing for lunch from 1-2 p.m. 

The Sabinal Public Library will host an ice cream social today from 3-5 p.m. for all school-age students. There will also be crafts and games. All you need is a library card to participate. Tomorrow is a free bingo for all ages from 1-3 p.m.

First Baptist Church hosted its final taco Tuesday on May 23. Thirteen children attended. Vacation Bible school will run June 4-8 from 5:30 to 8:15 p.m. It is for kindergarten through sixth grade. Youth group meets each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. for grades seven through 12. At Grace Community Fellowship Church, praise and worship night will be held at 7 p.m. on May 31. Sunday worship is at 10:30 a.m.  At Sabinal Methodist Church, vacation Bible school is scheduled from May 29 through June 2 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. It iso pen to ages 4 through sixth grade.  

At St. Patrick Catholic Church, during the morning service, the Rev. Matthew DeLeon let his parish know that he would be leaving for Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde, effective July 1.
