Sabinal ISD seeking $4.5 million bond approval

Sabinal City Hall will be closed tomorrow for Good Friday and the Easter weekend. 

Sabinal ISD is asking voters to OK more $4.5 million in new funding for the new event center. Due to rising costs of building materials, the first approved funding of $6.9 million will not cover escalating costs. 

Early voting for the school’s second bond election will be held April 25 through May 3 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Central Office. Final voting will be held at the Sabinal Public Library from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Sabinal and at the Old School House in Concan from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

Events upcoming in Sabinal sports are as follows: the Boys Varsity baseball team will be playing against Charlotte in Charlotte at 6 p.m. 

On April 19, the boys’ JV team will play against Utopia here at 6 p.m. 

Both the JV and varsity Lady Jackets will be playing against D’Hanis tonight in Sabinal beginning at 5 p.m. They play against La Pryor in Sabinal on April 18, Monday, and this is Parent’s Night. JV begins at 4:30 p.m. and Varsity at 6 p.m. 

The eight students who won last Friday in track at Falls City went again yesterday, this time to area competition, again took place at Falls City. As of this writing, the students names were not available for the paper. 

The Sabinal bands, sixth grade, seventh grade, and high school band will travel to Steele High School and Sea World. This is their only field trip and they will be gone from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 22. 

The Sabinal Senior Citizens Center re-opened on Monday, April 11 for meals in-house. Their hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will be closed tomorrow for Good Friday. 

The Sabinal Public Library is closed today and will remain closed until Monday, April 18. 

First Baptist Church held a big Round-Up on April 3, which began with a breakfast at 10 a.m. There was a two-fold purpose in hosting the event. The first reason was to encourage members to come back to worship now that the pandemic has eased. 

The other was to invite other people, make them feel welcome, and visit with one another. There were 30 people in attendance for the breakfast and 40 people attended the church service. Interim Pastor John Moore reported that it was a big success and was very pleased with the outcome. 

This evening at 6:30 p.m, the Maundy Thursday service will be held at Sabinal’s First Baptist Church. Interim Pastor John Moore will officiate. All are invited to attend. 

At the Methodist Church in Sabinal, Pastor Dale White will conduct the Good Friday service at 6:30 p.m. and it is open to all. 

Central Christian Church will host the Easter Sunrise Service at 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 17. Interim Pastor John Moore from First Baptist Church will deliver the message. 

All churches are invited to attend. This will be the only service held at Central Christian during the Easter weekend.
