At Floresville tonight, the Sabinal Yellowjackets will take on the Yorktown Wildcats in Class 2A Division II bi-district football competition.
Kick-off time for the game at Eschenberg Field is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Coach Jeff Kowalski’s Yellowjackets, 3-7 for the season, lost a 40-20 decision against the Bruni Badgers in the District 15-2A Division II season finale last Friday.
With the win, the Badgers claimed second place in the district standings, while the Yellowjackets finished in third place.
Sabinal scored twice in the first period.
Running back Rene Gallegos scored on touchdown runs of 26 yards and two yards. The other Sabinal touchdown came in the fourth period on a 17-yard pass from quarterback Brandon Gomez to wide receiver Johnny Rodriguez. Bruni dominated Sabinal in team statistics, including first downs, 28-16, and total yards, 496-240. Rene Gallegos carried the ball 14 times for 97 yards and two touchdowns. Brandon Gomez completed 16 passes for 107 yards and one touchdown, Matt McCauley caught six passes for 55 yards, while Johnny Rodriguez caught five passes for 36 yards and one touchdown.
Yorktown, 7-3 for the season, finished second to Falls City in the District 16-2A Division II standings. The Wildcats crushed the Runge Yellowjackets, 49-7, in their district finale last Friday night. Tomorrow at 7 p.m., the D’Hanis Cowboys, 8-1 for the season, will face the 3-6 Woodsboro Eagles in bi-district action at Eschenberg Field. In other bi-district games, Bruni, 6-3 for the season, will take on the 6-4 Louise Hornets at Taft tomorrow, while the Falls City Beavers, 9-1, will host the 2-7 La Pryor Bulldogs at Jourdanton tonight. Both games are set to begin at 7 p.m.
