Sabinal City Council members Billie Franklin and Stephen Henry are vying for the city mayor title, with the election set May 4 at the Sabinal Elementary library.
Mayor Charles D. Story, who was elected to his first two-year term in 2016, did not file for reelection.
Sabinal has six council seats, two for each of three wards, plus the mayor. Spots come up for election in two-year cycles.
Franklin joined council in 2020, when aldermen appointed her to fill a vacant term. No other candidates opposed her when she filed as a candidate in the 2022 election.
Henry joined council in May of 2019, and his fellow aldermen appointed him to the mayor pro-tem spot a month later.
Early voting will be held weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sabinal City Hall, 501 N. Center St., April 22-30. The deadline to register to vote, for voters who were not previously registered, was April 4.
The next city council meeting is set April 15 at 7 p.m. at city hall.
