Several locations hosting blood drives

Applebees will host a blood drive on June 26 for the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center and, as an incentive, they are offering donors a certificate for a free appetizer or dessert.

The bloodmobile is set to be parked at the restaurant, 3060 E. Main St., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“There were a lot of donors who wanted to do their civic service to the community and donate blood, but not all were accommodated because of time and staffing constraints when the tragedy struck,” said Imelda Bernardo-Barclift, donor recruitment consultant for the STBTC.

”Scheduled donors may also receive a United for Uvalde T-shirt, in addition to the restaurant voucher, which is redeemable for either a spinach and artichoke dip or mozzarella sticks appetizer, or a triple chocolate meltdown dessert.

Another blood drive will be held July 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Herby Ham Activity Center, 248 Farm to Market Road 3447.

On July 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., First State Bank of Uvalde will host the bloodmobile in the parking lot at 200 E. Nopal St. Sign up to donate at: donor.southtexasblood.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/137024.

Bernardo-Barclift asks that anyone who signed up to donate but is unable to attend call 210-731-5555 to cancel or reschedule. She said often about half of those scheduled to donate do not arrive, and this makes it difficult to re-open the spots.
