Sony sending noise canceling earphones for families Robb shooting

The Sony Corporation has donated noise canceling headphones, which are set to be distributed July 2 at the Uvalde County Fairplex to assist in shielding those traumatized by loud noises after the May 24 shooting at Robb Elementary School.

Though most fireworks are banned in the area, it is likely that noise-makers, sometimes sounding like shots, will be set off to celebrate the July 4 holiday.

Robb School Memorial Fund steering committee president Mickey Gerdes said Sony, through a connection with steering committee member and VictimsFirst founder Anita Busch, contacted them, and then shipped the headphones.

“Sony Pictures reached out to us, and Sony Entertainment is going to have Sony’s electronic division send 180 sets of noise cancelling headphones to Uvalde, for those who were injured and those who were in the west wing of Robb,” Gerdes said.

The headphones will be available for pickup from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. or as long as supplies last.

Gerdes said between 80 to 100 sets will be set aside for those who were in the west wing of Robb during the school shooting, and the remainder will be distributed on a first-come first-served basis.

He said the headphones were shipped in care of the office of 38th Judicial District Attorney Christina Mitchell, and they arrived July 1.
