Sub-varsity teams lose home opener

It was an unsuccessful night for Uvalde High School sub-varsity teams in their football season home openers last Thursday in the Honey Bowl.

The Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks shut out the Coyotes, 24-0, in junior varsity play, while the Mavs freshmen posted a 24–12 win over the Coyotes freshmen.

With their loss, the UHS junior varsity team now has a season record of 0-2.

In the freshman game, quarterback Rocky Duran scored both Uvalde touchdowns.

Duran scored on touchdown runs of 35 yards and 40 yards.

Defensively, standouts for the Coyotes included defensive end Gavin Torres, safety Leslie Diaz, and cornerback Owen Hughes, who intercepted a pass.

With the loss, the Coyotes now have a season record of 1-1.

Next action for the Uvalde High School’s sub-varsity football teams is set for next Thursday when they go on road to play the Poteet Aggies.
