Tom V. Haby Jr.

Tom Vance Haby Jr., 84, of Brackettville died on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at his residence.

Graveside services will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Uvalde Cemetery.

He was born on Sept. 19, 1932, in Uvalde to Sarah (Crump) and Tom Vance Haby.

Haby attended school in Uvalde and graduated from Uvalde High School in 1950. He was a member of the 1949 Uvalde High School Coyote football team, where he made and maintained lifelong friendships. After serving in the U.S. Army in Korea, he attended and graduated from Texas Tech University.

Haby married Mary Lee Kolinek on June 26, 1959, in Uvalde and the couple celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 2009. Both taught school in Knippa, La Pryor and Terlingua. Later, he managed ranches for Hayden Haby and “Happy” Shahan.

He is survived by one son, Guy “Chip” Haby and wife, Kasey Hall Haby, of Atascosa; and two grandchildren, Tillman Vance and Sarah Dean.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two brothers, Hayden Haby and Rymond Haby.
