UHS seniors in showcase bowl Saturday

Uvalde High School seniors Tanner Bowman, Hector Najera, and Julian Ortiz will vie for the East All-Stars in the Showcase Bowl football game Saturday at San Antonio.

Kick-off time for the third-annual Showcase Bowl All-Star game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Marvin Gustafson Stadium.

Admission to the game will cost $15 per person.

Joining the UHS players for the game will be UHS head trainer James Cano, who will serve as the head trainer of the West All-Stars.

Cano will be assisted by UHS assistant trainder Tyler Straub, and UHS student trainers Jaime Cruz, Ariana Diaz, Frank Leigh Guerrero, Kademce Kubish, Elena Mendoza, Enrique Morales, Eestvan Ortega, Addison Pendleton, and Kennedy Ward.

“College scouts will be on hand to see players in this ball game,” said Cano. “This game offers players the opportunity to show off their abilities and possibly gain offers to play football at the next level.”

Two other UHS players were invited to participate, but one player is involved in high school baseball, while the other had health issues.

Jason Smith of Beaumont Kelly Catholic will coach the East All-Stars, while San Antonio Burbank’s Wendall Harris will coach the West All-Stars.
