The Uvalde High School tennis team ended its 2021 team tennis season Monday at Southwest Legacy High School as Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway downed the Coyotes and Lobos, 14-1, in regional quarter-final competition.
“Our kids played hard and we lost several close matches that could have gone either way,” said UHS head tennis coach Terri Rambie. “We lost to a very good Tuloso-Midway tennis team.”
Jack Brock was the only match winner for UHS.
Brock topped Dorian Linebrink, 6-2 and 7-5 (10-4), in the boys’ number-three singles match.
Others who represented UHS in singles competition were Ty Gonzalez, Colton Gaston, Jacob Flores, Hector Lopez, Jonathon Garcia, Reilly Mize, Allison Goggans, Elizabeth Phillips, Hope Dube, Reagan Dodson, Joana Reyes, Zoe Faust, and Victoria Reyes. Those who participated in doubles play included the teams of Ty Gonzalez and Michelle Miller, Elizabeth Phillips and Hope Dube, Allison Goggans and Reagan Dodson, Joana Reyes and Victoria Reyes, Jack Brock and Colton Gaston, Jacob Flores and Hector Lopez, and Jonathon Garcia and Reilly Mize.
With the loss Monday, the Uvaldeans ended their team tennis season with a record of 19-6.
“We beat a lot of good teams along the way,” Rambie said. “Coach [Eric] Mahler and I are proud of the work our kids put in throughout this season.
“Now, we will go to work to get ready for the spring tennis season,” Rambie said. The Uvaldeans won the District 29-4A tennis title, and they claimed the bi-district title and the Area championship prior to the loss.
