Two of six Uvalde High School seniors will be named homecoming king and queen when the Coyotes take on the Minutemen this Friday evening.
Earlier this month, local high school students nominated king candidates Rylan Diaz, Reilly Mize and Fermin Barboza and queen candidates Andrea Perez, Nixon Havelka and Mialanie Garza to represent the senior class.
Two seniors from the junior, sophomore and freshman classes were named the school’s prince and princess, as well as dukes and duchesses. They were: juniors Joseph Rodriguez and Ashlynn Aguero; sophomores Darrien Navarro and Amilee Pulido; and freshmen Jeremy Limones and Emilangela “Emily” Gaytan.

Queen candidates
Mialanie Garza, who was named volleyball sweetheart, is involved in the high school’s varsity volleyball and track programs. After graduation, she wants to continue playing volleyball in college and earn a degree in radiology. Her dream job would be to model alongside her cousin, who lives in Houston. Garza is the daughter of Kassandra Najera and Rafael Garza.
Nixon Havelka is representing the high school’s soccer program during this year’s homecoming. According to the district, she wants to study wildlife management at Texas A&M after graduation. Havelka is the daughter of Christopher and Sterling Havelka.
Andrea Perez, who was named the cheer sweetheart, is involved in student council, student officers, the National Honor Society, and varsity soccer and cheer. After high school, she wants to major in business. Perez is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Perez. She will be escorted in the homecoming parade by Brodie Carnes, son of J Allen and Brooke Carnes.

King candidates
Reilly Mize, the district’s tennis beau, is treasurer of Coyotech robotics, a member of NHS, and manages the Lobos soccer team. After high school, he wants to get a biochemistry degree and become a pediatric oncologist. Mize is the son of Julie Mize and the late Allen Mize.
TRiO beau Rylan Diaz is involved in various sports within the district, including football. After high school, he wants to study engineering in college. Diaz is the son of Angelica Silva.
Fermin Barboza, the football beau, is involved in NHS as well. He hopes to get a good job after high school, according to the district. Barboza is the son of Fermin and Crystal Barboza.
