Three Uvalde High School football players participated in the San Antonio Sports All-Star football and National Combine weekend last Friday and Saturday at San Antonio.

UHS senior Juve Esparza played in the All-Star game, while sophomore Alberto De La Garza and freshman Diego Granados took part in the player combine camp.

“Our players did well,” said UHS head football coach Wade Miller.

Esparza played as a defensive back for Team Black in the All-Star game last Saturday evening in the Alamodome.

Team Black defeated Team Gold in a 41-34 football thriller.

“Juve made a tackle, had a pass break up, and gave up one catch for a touchdown,” said Miller.

De La Garza and Granados were involved in the player combine staged last Friday.

“Albert did great in the combine. He was named to the honorable mention list of the all-camp team,” said Miller  “That’s a huge accomplishment as over 600 of the best athletes in the county took part in the combine. He was listed among the top 20 defensive backs.

“Diego also had a good combine,” said Miller. “For our three athletes, it was a great weekend of football.”

Participants for the game and the combine were made by a committee representing the All-Star game and the Combine.
