Wrestlers enjoy tourney success


Last Saturday, Uvalde High School wrestlers enjoyed success in the New Braunfels Canyon Classic and Mabry Scramble tournament.

The Coyotes placed sixth out of the 20 schools entered in the boys team standings, while the Lobos took 12th place of the 20 school entered in the girls team standings.

Devon Brown and Carlos Rodriguez claimed first place in their weight divisions.

Brown won the 175-pound weight class and Rodriguez took top honors in the 113-pound class.

George Rodriguez was the runner-up in the 120-pound division, while Orlando Romero captured second place in the 215-pound class.

Aidan Cantu finished eighth in the 285-pound class, Hector Aguilar took ninth in the 132-pound class, and Tristen Sanchez won ninth place in the 175-pound class.

Ethan Chase and Javier Guerrero each finished in 13th place, Chase in the 138-pound division and Guerrero in the 147-pound division.

For the UHS girls, Emma Huerta placed third in th 235-pound division.

Briana Brown won fifth place in the 185-pound division, while Sophia Garcia garnered sixth place in the 126-pound class.

District 14-5A wrestling competition is scheduled for Feb. 4 at San Antonio’s Alamo Convocation Center.
