Zamora is outstanding veterans’ service rep

Uvalde County Veterans Service Officer Everado “Lalo” Zamora has been named the 2016-2017 Outstanding Veterans County Service Officer by the Veterans County Service Officers Association of Texas.

Zamora received the award Sept. 19 during the 70th-annual conference of the Texas Veterans Service Officers Association held in Galveston.

“We are extremely proud of the work of Lalo and the way he represents the veterans of Uvalde County. It is an honor to have him representing the county and the veterans,” commented Uvalde County Judge Bill Mitchell.

Zamora was appointed to his position by the Uvalde County Commissioners Court in February of 2010.

Before being appointed by the court to serve local veterans, Zamora served in the United States Marine Corps for four years. After leaving the USMC, Zamora was an active member of the Army National Guard for 27 years.

As an advocate for veterans, Zamora is dedicated to providing for the needs of service men and women once they are discharged from active duty.

Among his functions as veterans service officer, he helps veterans in securing earned military benefits, health benefits, records maintenance, medical transportation, special needs and veteran recognition.

In addition to receiving the award at the state conference, Zamora was elected as a member of the board of directors for the Southwest Region of the Veterans County Service Officers Association of Texas. The term of office is for two years.
