Consuelo ‘Mamo’ Gonzales

Consuelo “Mamo” Perez Gonzales, 89, of Uvalde died on July 29, 2014, at the Uvalde Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Feb. 28, 1925, in Del Rio to Luisa Mendez and Jose Perez. According to the family, Gonzales was an excellent cook and got much satisfaction when cooking for others. Her annual tradition was to make hundreds of dozens of tamales and share with friends and family during the holiday season. The family added that Gonzales worked many years as a nurse’s aide and cared for her patients in the same way she cared for her children. On Oct. 7, 1940, she married Vicente R. Gonzales Jr. They settled in Uvalde and started their family. She is survived by five sons, Vicente P. Gonzales III and wife, Maria Guadalupe, Andres Gonzales and wife, Esmeralda, Roland Gonzales, Juan B. Gonzales and wife, Rachel, and Marco Gonzales, all of Uvalde; two daughters, Dedic Mancha and Catalina Criselda Flores and husband, Fausto Flores III, all of Pearland; 11 grandchildren, Hector Gonzales, Christine Gonzales, Denise Adame, Andy Gonzales, Amanda Lara, John Paul Gonzales, Carmen Williams, Angela Piedras, Gabriella Flores, Roman Gonzales and Andrew Gonzales; and 10 great-grandchildren, Lauren Gonzalez, Nathan Gonzalez, Joshua Adame, Esteban Gonzales, Alejandro Gonzales, Ethan Lara, Zoey Piedras, Emma Piedras, Hunter Watkins and Dylan Williams. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one grandson, Frankie Mancha; and one son-in-law, Frank Mancha. Visitation was held Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Rushing-Estes Knowles Chapel. Funeral services began at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel at 10 a.m. on Friday, followed by a church service at El Templo Christiano Church with Pastor Eddie De La Rosa officiating.
