Commissioners pause Jones’ election-prep plans for now

Three weeks ago, Uvalde County elections administrator Melissa Jones told county commissioners of the projects she was eyeing to make local elections proceed more smoothly. This week, she presented her plans for approval, but only one of the three agenda items was given a green light.

The request to seek a cost proposal for renovation of the former Uvalde County Jail, 121 E. Nopal St., was OK’d.

During Monday’s 10 a.m. meeting of Uvalde County Commissioners, Jones outlined a plan to use part of the building as a polling place as well as an accessible and secure election headquarters.
