Grand Canyon remains nature’s crowning glory


Standing on the rim of the Grand Canyon for the first time, it is impossible not to feel overwhelmed by what is surely nature’s most awe-inspiring creation. For more than 270 miles, the earth has been lifted by the collision of tectonic plates and then carved away to depths exceeding a mile by the inexorable forces of the Colorado River. Some, like our recent tour bus driver, are simply moved to tears. “I stood there and cried,” she told us of her first view of the canyon years earlier.
