Virtual meetings for Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District athletes and their parents are the next thing scheduled by the athletic department.

“These next couple of weeks we will be conducting virtual meetings for students and parents,” said R.T. Gonzales, Uvalde High School athletic director.

“During the school year, we go to the various campuses and speak with potential student-athletes about requirements, including physical exams, the strength and conditioning program, and other things having to do with the athletic program,” Gonzales said.

“Because of the COVID-19 health crisis and the suspension of classes this spring, we were not able to do that,” Gonzales said. “Therefore, we will have meetings for each junior high school and for high school.

“For high school freshmen, we will introduce them to all of the sports that are offered at the high school level,” Gonzales said. “Each head coach will run the meeting. Parents are welcomed. This will be done on Google meet.

“Any parents looking for the code may e-mail me, Coach Libby Guzman, or Coach Debra Martinez,” Gonzales said.

Those respective e-mail address include rgonzales7866@uvaldecisd.net, egonzales@uvaldecisd.net, and dmartinez@uvaldecisd.net.

Regular season high school practice for the fall sports, including football, volleyball, team tennis, and cross-country, will begin in early August.

Because of the suspension of sports activities by the University Interscholastic League this spring, the UIL will allow for practices this summer, but the UIL has yet to announce definitive plans.
